About J.Rochioli Vineyards and Winery

The Rochioli family legacy began with Joe Rochioli Sr. farming hops and grapes in 1938 at a 125-acre property called Fenton Acres, now known as Rochioli Vineyards. Joe Sr. and his son, Joe Jr., planted one of the first Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in the RRV in 1959. After Joe Sr.’s passing, Joe Jr., began planting Pinot Noir in 1968. This was significant as he was one of the first to plant this new varietal in this cool region. Shortly after the success of planting Pinot Noir, Joe Jr. planted Chardonnay in 1972. For many years, The Rochiolis were selling their high-quality grapes to some of the top wine producers in the Russian River Valley.
After seeing the great success that so many wineries were having with the Rochioli fruit, Joe Jr.’s son, Tom, returned to the family farm with an idea. He became convinced that they should produce their own wine under the Rochioli name. In 1983 they changed the name of the property from Fenton Acres to Rochioli Vineyards. Tom took over in 1985 as the business manager of the winery and soon after became the winemaker and still is today. In 1987 Rochioli released their first estate wine, the 1985 Rochioli Pinot Noir. They were all amazed that year when they learned it had topped Wine Spectator’s list of Pinot Noir and was named ‘The Best Pinot Noir in America.’ Tom’s wife, Theresa, was also instrumental in the launch of the Rochioli brand and helped open their tasting room and retail sales in 1985.
As third-generation farmer and winemaker, Tom is proud of his family heritage and the significant contributions to farming and winemaking that both his father and grandfather have made over the years. Now, the fourth generation has also joined the family business. Tom and Theresa’s daughter, Rachael, is the General Manager, and their son, Ryan, is the Assistant Winemaker. The Rochioli family crafts renowned, terroir-driven wines built on a foundation of superb fruit and has earned a reputation as one of Sonoma County’s finest wineries.
